Specifying a brand new Isuzu 7.5 tonne Euro VI ‘Urban’ N75.150 rigid to replace an ageing truck of another manufacturer, East Anglia-based chemicals distribution company Suffolk & Essex Supplies Ltd has been able to make significant improvements in its distribution programme. Not just because the new Isuzu is more modern, it also has a more impressive payload, it’s reliable and has a vastly improved ‘on-the-road’ driving performance.

According to Andrew Castledine, Director at Suffolk & Essex Supplies Ltd; “By recommending a purpose-designed truck specification for our distribution operation, Isuzu Truck has given us a hugely productive delivery vehicle. To date, we have been really impressed by the volume of products that we can carry on this new 7.5 tonner, as well as the improved overall fuel economy that we’re achieving.”

This is the first Isuzu truck to enter the fleet at Suffolk & Essex Supplies Ltd, and the short wheelbase Isuzu Euro VI ‘Urban’ N75.150 rigid features Isuzu’s popular ‘Easyshift’ semi-automated transmission. The body was specified as a curtainsider with a rear tuckaway tail-lift.

“As a specialist chemicals distribution business, we deliver quite a range of heavy and bulky goods. For example we supply pallets of products for the leisure industries and small containers for industrial use. But in addition we have to pump liquid chemicals into our customer’s own tanks. We do this by using an on-board compressor that pressurises our 1000 litre vessels which then enables us to make the deliveries. Whatever the load, the Isuzu takes it easily in its stride. What’s more, the compact footprint of the truck is ideally suited for some of the more rural road conditions of East Anglia, Essex and Suffolk. Our regular driver has been extremely impressed by the overall performance of the Isuzu, including the quality of the spacious cab environment,” added Andrew Castledine.

Based in Hadleigh, near Ipswich, Suffolk & Essex Supplies Ltd is one of the largest independent chemical companies in East Anglia. The business has been going for over 35 years, predominantly supplying a comprehensive range of chemicals and salts to its extensive customer base. Alongside its sister organisation Hexeal Chemicals in Norwich, the company services all of East Anglia, Essex, Suffolk and beyond. It looks after customers involved in agriculture, poultry, swimming pools, brewing, equine, commercial industrial operations, as well as water and effluent treatment for leading public venues in the region.

“At our main distribution centre in Hadleigh, we have substantial bulk-tank storage facilities. The role of the new Isuzu is to work alongside our other distribution vehicles, handling deliveries on a five-days-a-week working schedule. The vehicle will probably cover around 30,000 kms per year and, whilst we have bought the truck on a four-year finance agreement, we will be looking to run it for considerably more years than that. We have great confidence in the longevity and reliability of the Isuzu marque,” commented Andrew.

Keith Child, marketing director at Isuzu Truck, says; “Initially launched 12 months ago, the Isuzu 7.5 tonne ‘Urban’ is proving popular with payload-critical, local distribution operations. As expected the new Euro VI, 3.0 litre, 150 PS engine has proved to be just as reliable as the 5.2 litre, 190 PS, version found in its bigger brother the ‘Forward’. The ‘Urban’ is an ideal truck for a company such as Suffolk and Essex Supplies that needs a hard-working, durable vehicle that can easily handle a variety of loads on a regular basis. This is just one of an increasing number of first-time customers that has switched to Isuzu as a result of the productivity and reliability of the new 7.5t ‘Urban’. Suffolk and Essex Supplies should certainly enjoy many years of reliable performance from their first ever Isuzu.”

Demonstrating its strength in the UK recovery sector, Isuzu Truck (UK) Ltd entered one of its successful Isuzu N75.190 ‘Forward’ Euro VI rigids, fitted with an industry-leading recovery body, at this year’s annual historic ‘Cart Marking’ ceremony in the City of London. Cart Marking is a multi-vehicle parade and vehicle drive-past, in the presence of the Rt Hon Mayor of London, the Sheriff of London and other city officers.

According to Keith Child, marketing director at Isuzu Truck UK; “The Cart Marking ceremony is a prestigious annual event within the City of London’s calendar and Isuzu Truck is a long term supporter of the event. Once again we have played an active role in the pleasurable, day-long proceedings.”

In the livery of loyal, Hatfield-based customer Recovery World, the Isuzu rigid truck taking part in the Cart Marking ceremony is one of the most popular models in Isuzu’s 2015 Euro VI product portfolio.

“The Isuzu ‘Forward’ N75.190 7.5 tonne rigid is the proven popular choice amongst the many recovery operators that we do business with. Every year at Cart Marking we try to demonstrate the vast array of body types fitted to our vehicles. In past events, we have entered trucks with refrigerated bodies, as well as electric trucks for example, but this year we decided to highlight the success of our truck range within the recovery sector.”

A second Isuzu truck was also featured in this year’s Cart Marking event, although this one was presented by body-builder Paneltex . The vehicle was an all-electric 7.5 tonne urban delivery vehicle powered by the ZEROED high profile, zero/low carbon energy engine. This insulated/refrigerated truck represented the latest technology design in all-electric powered commercials, complete with a ‘tuck under’ tail-lift to facilitate easy loading and unloading.

The Cart Marking ceremony at the Guildhall in London is a time-honoured tradition, maintained by the Worshipful Company of Carmen. Selected vehicles, representing the history of transport, are branded with a red-hot iron on a wooden plaque. Each plaque carries a unique vehicle number and the Carmen Arms. The ceremony acts as a reminder of centuries of service by transport organisations to the City of London.

Isuzu Truck stand: NEC Hall 5, Stand 5W50-X51

The big news from Isuzu Truck is that its new Euro VI ‘Forward’ F120.240, 12.00 tonne GVW, is going to be on display at this year’s RWM. The particular vehicle being exhibited will be the first of Isuzu’s recently launched 12t rigid chassis to feature a refuse collection body. The second Isuzu vehicle on the stand will be one of the popular Isuzu ‘Urban’ N75.150 rigids, with this vehicle featuring a RCV body and bar lift.

Announcing details of its vehicle display at RWM 2015, Keith Child, marketing director at Isuzu Truck said; “The 2015 range of Isuzu trucks are proving to be extremely popular within the refuse and waste management sector because they provide extremely good value for money as well as the flexibility needed to optimise vehicle load and specification. All our vehicles are recognised for their high payload capabilities, because of their lightweight chassis and advanced engineering, which is linked to strong performance and proven reliability.”

With a compact overall footprint as well as class-leading carrying capacity, the latest Isuzu 12t 4x2 rigid has a low chassis height and offers great versatility. Making its first ever appearance at RWM, the 12t Isuzu on display has a 3790mm wheelbase and Isuzu’s popular ‘Easyshift’ automated transmission as standard. The truck at the show will be in the distinctive green livery of Isuzu’s customer, WM Briers & Sons.

The ‘Forward’ F120.240(E) chassis features a Garwood 8m³ Powapact single compaction refuse body, complete with heavy-duty trade lift and VWS tradeweigh calibrated load cells, as well as a work box mounted behind the cab for the collection of fluorescent tubes.

This brand new Isuzu will replace an incumbent 12 tonne vehicle within the WM Briers & Sons fleet, which is based in Tamworth and also includes another three Isuzu ‘Forward’ N75.190, 7.5t rigid trucks that are specified with Garwood Bantam 6m³ refuse bodies.

Isuzu Euro VI ‘Urban’ N75.150(E) 7.5 tonne

Initially launched 18 months ago, the Isuzu ‘Urban’ 7.5t 4 x 2 chassis has proved to be a winner offering industry-leading payload and impressive fuel economy from its turbocharged and intercooled, four-cylinder 3.0 litre, 150PS diesel engine. The ‘Urban’ 7.5t vehicle on the Isuzu stand also features Isuzu’s ‘Easyshift’ automated transmission and the chassis has been modified to a reduced 2900mm wheelbase. The Isuzu N75.150(E) chassis is fitted with a 5.1 m³ NTM K Series RCV body and bar lift, and after the show it will join other existing Isuzu vehicles in the M6 Vehicle Hire Ltd fleet, based in Birmingham.

“Flexibility is the key to the success of the current Isuzu truck range. The chassis are ideally suited to multi-purpose operations and the compact overall footprint allows the vehicles to operate in a cross-section of locations, from narrow rural country lanes through to congested urban streets and highways. For complete peace of mind, all of our vehicles come with a three-year unlimited mileage warranty and are fully supported by our unique, award-winning customer ‘CARE’ service programme,” added Keith Child.

Following the successful operation of its first two Isuzus that have been in service for just over a year, specialist national green services provider Glendale Managed Services Ltd has taken a further two new Isuzus to work on specific new contracts in the North London area.

The latest Isuzu N75.190 Forward Euro VI rigids, in the distinctive Glendale livery, are involved in the maintenance of trees in the London Boroughs of Harrow and Hillingdon, handling a range of arboriculture applications from supporting routine tree-felling to annual pruning programmes.

Stuart Darbyshire, commercial director at Glendale Managed Services Ltd, said; “Glendale is a relatively new user of Isuzu trucks taking our first Isuzus in 2014. We were really impressed by the demonstration vehicle supplied by our local dealer and subsequently bought two new 6.2 tonne GVW Isuzus on the back of this initial contact. Both the original Isuzus performed really well in service, so we decided to duplicate the order for our 2015 requirements but this time moving from 6.2 tonne vehicles to the latest Euro VI 7.5 tonne specification."

The two latest Isuzu 7.5t rigids have been specified with Isuzu’s popular Easyshift automated transmission and feature a secure storage/tool box compartment behind the cab and a compact tipping body. In operation, the vehicle is equipped to tow a chipper, which feeds the tipper body with woodchip waste.

All four Isuzu rigids have been supplied by local dealer Cornwallis Commercials Ltd and the latest two 7.5t vehicles are based in Glendale’s South East region, operating from its Watford depot.

“Based on the performance of the four Isuzu trucks over the past 18 months, we now consider the Isuzu Forward to be the standard 7.5 tonne vehicle for our fleet; it has become the template for future purchases at 7.5tonne,” added Stuart Darbyshire.

Now in its 25th year, Glendale Managed Services Ltd is the UK’s leading supplier of specialist green service solutions for the management and maintenance of green environments. It operates through a nationwide depot network that is split into four regions covering the whole of the UK.

“In a short period of time, Glendale’s Isuzu trucks have already left a lasting positive impression with their performance and overall productivity. We now look forward to working closely with Glendale on their future fleet requirements,” said Keith Child, marketing director, Isuzu Truck UK.

When it came to replacing some of the 7.5t rigids in its distribution fleet, leading food service company JJ Food Service Ltd has specified the Isuzu Forward 7.5 tonne rigid with the decision based on the company’s previous long-term experience of running the Isuzu marque in its 140 strong nationwide fleet.

Having operated in excess of 100 Isuzu 7.5 tonne rigids, JJ Food Service has a detailed hands-on familiarity with the effective operating performance of Isuzu trucks and, for this particular distribution requirement, the latest Isuzu Euro VI rigid truck fitted the bill perfectly.

According to Mick Montague from JJ Food Service Ltd; “All our Isuzus have served us really well in the past, they are an excellent workhorse with outstanding payload capability. In fact, we have still got some 06 plate Isuzus running around on a daily basis within our fleet today. For our new bespoke service for home deliveries, we felt that the Isuzu Euro VI 7.5tonner would be the ideal vehicle to handle the requirements of this specific operation.”

The latest replacement Isuzu Forward N75.190 4x2 rigids feature the popular Easyshift automated transmission and are specified with a Solomon’s dual compartment refrigerated body that has a movable bulkhead. The trucks each use Carrier Transicold Xarios refrigeration systems as standard and the bodies have all been fitted with the latest JJ Food Service wrap livery.

“For the last few years, we have concentrated on adding 18 tonne rigids to our fleet, however recently, our product range has changed considerably, in terms of product categories and higher price points. To accommodate these changes, we needed to go back to putting more 7.5 tonne vehicles into the fleet. This gives us a better, more efficient, utilisation of these types of products,” commented Mick Montague.

As one of the UK’s leading food service companies, JJ Food Service Ltd operates through a nationwide 8-strong branch network. Based at the JJ Food Service depot in Enfield, the latest Isuzus are being used for a range of the company’s distribution services, mainly delivering to customers in West London and the City. As the delivery routes are not particularly high mileage, JJ Food Service anticipates that the new Isuzu delivery vehicles will have a long working life in its fleet.

“Isuzu and JJ Food Service have enjoyed a really successful working relationship that goes back over many years. This is part and parcel of the ITUK approach to its customers. By working closely with our customers such as JJ Food Service, we are able to develop long-term partnerships. We strive to deliver great customer service and care and provide vehicles that are ideally suited to the specific distribution requirements,” commented Keith Child, marketing director, Isuzu Truck (UK) Ltd.

The first ever Isuzu truck to operate within the nine strong fleet of Road Runners Recovery Service has recently gone into service for the Orpington based company, who were impressed by the substantial payload offered by the Isuzu 7.5 tonne vehicle.

“To keep up with our customer requirements, we needed a crew cab truck with good payload: naturally, the Isuzu fitted the bill perfectly. In addition, being based within the London Low Emission Zone, all our vehicles must satisfy the stringent emission standards. Overall, we felt that the Isuzu 7.5 tonne Euro VI crew cab was the right vehicle for our fleet requirements,” said Mark Crawley, director, Road Runners Recovery Service.

The first Isuzu in the Road Runners fleet is an Isuzu N75.190 manual crew cab rigid truck, fitted with a fully demountable Worldwide Recovery Aluminium Lo Slider body, supplied by RecoveryVehicles.com

In its distinctive red livery, the new Isuzu is a high specification recovery vehicle featuring air-conditioning and five cameras, including a reversing camera, that provide 24-hour recording at all times. There is additional voice recording in the cab too. Other features specified on the new Isuzu include extra-large lockers, a sliding winch, an impressive 4° loading angle, which is ideal for low profile, prestige vehicles recovery, and a second car lift for towing an additional vehicle.

According to Road Runners Recovery Service, this vehicle will be covering approximately 50,000 miles per year and is being operated predominantly by two dedicated drivers. As Mark Crawley said; “Both drivers are extremely happy with the spacious Isuzu crew cab, and they find the vehicle is extremely easy to drive and certainly powerful enough to handle our recovery operations.”

Based in Orpington in Kent, Road Runners Recovery Service has been in business since 1989 and operates in the London, Kent and South East area, providing vehicle recovery and transport services to its extensive customer base.

In September this year, this new Isuzu for Road Runners Recovery Service was the centrepiece of the Worldwide Recovery stand at the Tow Show in Telford.
